EBSCO's Payment Terms

Our terms are net due upon receipt of invoice. We reserve the right to advise customers who are slow in payment that a carrying charge of 1 percent per 30 days will be charged beginning the 60th day for unpaid balances. If a discount is possible on your subscription list, it is offered only on the condition that our payment terms will be adhered to and payment will be made no later than 59 days after the date of our invoice.

EBSCO pays publishers in advance for subscription orders and guarantees you that entry has been made. Advance payment by EBSCO helps gain prompt handling of orders by publishers and timely receipt of issues, but the financial burden of cash-in-advance ordering makes it necessary that we receive payment according to our terms.

If payment is not received according to our terms, pricing may have to be adjusted for customers who force an extra expense in providing service to them. We realize some standard purchasing policies require that receipt be verified before payment can be made. While we certainly wish to cooperate with you and your purchasing personnel, delays in payment do incur an additional cost.

Cancellations and refunds

If you want to cancel a subscription, EBSCO will notify the publisher and process a cancellation for you, unless the publisher indicates the title is noncancelable. We recommend cancellation at expiration for maximum effectiveness. Most publishers charge a cancellation fee or cancel with no refunds. Therefore, cancellation at any time other than expiration is not usually in your best interest, except in the cases of costly materials. It is EBSCO's policy not to accept cancellation requests from customers if the subscription term has less than six months remaining. If an order is canceled, we will credit your account an amount equal to what we are refunded by the publisher less a small processing fee.

When a title has been cancelled, it cannot be deducted from the invoice in anticipation of the publisher refund. The full amount of the invoice is due as well as any subsequent adjustments against the cancelled title. EBSCO has an extensive follow up procedure in place for obtaining your refund from publishers and will work diligently to obtain it.

Some key points to remember about cancellations and refunds:

  • Cancel at expiration for maximum effectiveness except for costly materials

  • Don't cancel if the subscription term has less than six months remaining

  • Send your request to cancel in writing to your Account Specialist. They will send a formal cancellation request to the publisher on your behalf

  • If you haven't received a credit within five months, you can assume the publisher has chosen not to refund

  • Do not withhold payment of the invoice pending receipt of the credit from the publisher.  Some publishers won't refund

  • You cannot substitute one title for another on an invoice

  • We delete all cancelled titles from your holdings list so as not to renew them the following year
