EBSCO Publishing acquired the Environmental Knowledgebase OnLine from the International Academy at Santa Barbara (IASB) and is now re-releasing the database as the Environmental Policy IndexTM with enhanced content and the searching power of the EBSCOhost® interface.

The Environmental Policy Index provides researchers with abstracts and indexing for over 1,000 titles covering environmental policy and studies. Updated monthly, with ongoing coverage for over 500 of those titles, the database contains citations for nearly 700,000 articles published since 1973. The database offers deep coverage of applicable areas of agriculture, ecosystem ecology, energy, environmental law, geography, marine and freshwater resources, public policy, social impacts, urban planning, and more. Additionally, an Environment Thesaurus and publication index are available for more precise, advanced searching.

According to Mark Herrick, Vice President of Business Development for EBSCO Publishing, "EBSCO is excited to have the opportunity to build on the excellent reputation of Environmental Knowledgebase OnLine. We have worked closely with IASB to make this transition, and future content additions will continue to emphasize the policy, legal, social impacts, planning, philosophy and ethical issues related to environmental studies."

Current enhancements to the original database include over 100 additional titles as well as the searching, customization and reporting features available using EBSCOhost. Furthermore, EBSCO's linking technology allows users to gain seamless access from a citation in an EBSCOhost database result list to the corresponding full text located in other resources.

For example, EBSCO's Academic Search* Premier database provides full text for over 200 journals included in the Environmental Policy Index. In addition to linking to the full text available in EBSCOhost databases, users may also link to the library's collection of electronic journals available through EBSCOhost Electronic Journals Service and other electronic journals from publishers registered with CrossRef. Links from Environmental Policy Index can also direct users to a library's OPAC, online ILL forms or services, document delivery services, search engines, book vendors and more.
