~ A Superb Fiction Resource Designed Specifically for K-8 Schools ~

EBSCO Publishing is excited to announce the release of NoveList K-8™, a fiction resource designed specifically for schools. NoveList K-8 builds on the superior content and subject headings found in the original award-winning version of NoveList™, which is used in high schools and public libraries across the country. This new version, however, includes content and an interface tailored exclusively to support media centers, libraries, classrooms and students in K-8 schools.

Education researchers like Stephen Krashen in his book The Power of Reading: Insights from the Research (quoted in the September 2002 issue of School Library Journal) have documented the contributions that reading makes to student success, and NoveList K-8 is an excellent way to support voluntary reading programs in schools.

NoveList K-8 helps librarians and teachers select the right book for each student. Books can be found matching many different search criteria including the Lexile readability measure, a plot description, a favorite author, an award, or a book similar to one already read and enjoyed based on theme, setting or a myriad of other factors. NoveList K-8 can also be used to find appropriate fiction to support particular teaching units and classroom themes, and the product's Teacher Resources materials provide a solid foundation for collaborative efforts between school media and classroom professionals.

NoveList K-8 offers:

  • Thousands of subject headings to find fiction titles to support any theme or unit
  • Lexile readability indicators to ensure that students read appropriately challenging materials
  • Over 35,000 fiction titles for K-8 readers
  • Full text reviews from respected sources such as School Library Journal and Booklist
  • A Teacher Resources page to guide faculty to new titles and new ways of translating curriculum standards into classroom activities
For several years the original version of NoveList has empowered school media professionals across the country. Diane Culbertson, Media Specialist at Tates Creek High School in Lexington, Kentucky, said, "[NoveList is] a library media specialist's best friend. It will help you to assist your students in finding just the right book. It offers all of the lists you need at your fingertips, like the Caldecott and Newbery winners. I am so much more effective in collaborating with teachers because I have access to what I need to help [them]. NoveList has become my 'right hand'."

NoveList K-8 provides an even more powerful tool to support learning, develop reading ability and encourage a life-long appreciation of fiction.
