About EBSCO Contact Us Site Map News Releases

Librarians and patrons no longer have to leave NoveListTM to search their library's catalog for the availability of a book they have discovered and want to read. Instead, thanks to newly added ILS and Z39.50 linking capability, users can link directly to the library's online catalog from a title found in a NoveList search.

With ILS linking enabled, a click on a link opens a window and searches the catalog for the title being viewed. From this window, the user can do additional searches and even reserve books. This capacity has been successfully tested with epixtech/dynix (iPAC v2.0 only), DRA, SIRSI, III/Innopac and Gaylord library systems.

If the library's catalog does not support ILS linking, Z39.50 linking may offer an alternative. Clicking on a Z39.50 link from within NoveList causes the application to connect to the customer's Z39.50 server, perform a search and display the results. In this instance the user is not actually in the library catalog, so they cannot do additional searches or reserve books. This functionality has been successfully tested with epixtech/dynix, DRA, SIRSI, III/Innopac, Gaylord and GEAC libraries.

In addition to the systems already tested, NoveList is in the process of setting up tests for both types of linking with TLC/CARL, GEAC, Winnebago, Follett and SIRS/Mandarin. NoveList customers should contact EBSCO Publishing Technical Support if they are interested in enabling this linking feature.

Not only is this feature a boon for users within the library, but also for remote library users. NoveList has always offered unlimited remote access, and the ability to search NoveList and view title availability in the library catalog from home provides a great value-added service to library patrons.
