Public libraries, schools and hospitals can now provide important health information in full text for their Spanish-speaking users with Información de Salud para los Consumidores (en Español) from EBSCO Publishing. The database is offered via EBSCOhost® Español, EBSCO's Spanish-language search interface, and it is designed to make health information more accessible to Spanish-speaking consumers and patients. Content was selected from over 300 publications published by more than 50 research associations and national institutes. It includes essays and articles from federal and state health agencies, voluntary health organizations, pharmaceutical companies and other health-related organizations as well as articles from Nidus Publishing's Well-Connected series and the Clinical Reference Systems collection. To enhance ease of use the data is thoroughly indexed, and each article is associated with one of 48 categories. Database users will be able to search the data using a standard keyword search or by selecting one of the categories from a drop-down list. The categories range from cancer, contraception and infectious diseases to mental health and substance abuse. Edited by Alan Rees from Oryx Press, most of the data was originally written in Spanish, and a translator at the International Center of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation has translated the remainder for consumer use. Current content will be updated regularly, and new content will continue to be added as important Spanish language resources in the area of consumer health are identified. Released: April 24, 2002 |
