Oliver Pesch, EBSCO's Chief Technical Officer, and respected industry leader, has been invited to represent the vendor population on the NISO Library Statistics Standard Committee. This group is tasked with the revision of the existing standard, Z39.7, and advising NISO on network performance measures that impact Z39.7.

EBSCO has also been on the leading edge of providing usage statistics to follow the recommended guidelines set forth by ICOLC (International Coalition of Library Consortia). "It is by these guidelines we can judge our position in the marketplace as a provider of statistical information," Pesch commented. "Not only do we adhere to the guidelines, but go beyond in many cases. We have been fortunate to deal closely with ICOLC and NISO, and look forward to further involvement with these groups as we work toward the common goal of improved statistical representation for Web-based resources."

A library's ability to customize EBSCOhost® and generate usage statistics is accomplished from the powerful administrative module, EBSCOadminTM. EBSCO Publishing continues to offer flexible and intuitive statistical reporting options, which conform to the International Coalition of Library Consortia guidelines. Reports can be generated in a wide range of formats, giving administrators the information they need to accurately assess and monitor EBSCOhost usage. With EBSCOadmin:

  • Several customized reports are available to choose from, including overall search sessions, individual databases searched and publications searched, among others.
  • Reports can contain and be sorted by the total number of logins, searches, hits, articles e-mailed, full text and abstracts viewed and total PDFs viewed.
  • Administrators can retrieve data captured from the current month up to the most recent thirty-six (36) month period.
  • Library consortia administrators can choose to run reports showing overall consortia statistics, or broken down by each site within the consortia.
  • Library consortia administrators also have the ability to assign specific user defined fields to each site and choose to sort their reports by these fields, such as library type.
  • Reports can be sent via email in HTML, Comma Delimited or Tab Delimited format, or shown on the computer screen. Administrators can choose to have their reports automatically sent to them via email, on a monthly or annual basis.
