As EBSCO Publishing develops and enhances EBSCOhost® and its databases, the company considers the needs and requests expressed by each library. Those needs, however, are not always identical from library to library. Hence, EBSCO equips each customer with the necessary tools to make EBSCOhost and each database uniquely its own. So, if a library chooses, EBSCOhost can be 100% full text.

Allowing libraries to customize their databases through the use of Local Collections has been a feature of EBSCO's dating back over 15 years when it was first introduced in its CD-ROM products. This feature allows libraries to customize EBSCOhost databases using their local holdings to create custom search limiters as well as the display of summary holdings or other local notes.

Example of Enhanced Customization in EBSCOhost
Through EBSCOhost's powerful linking features, the definition of full text extends beyond the articles that are part of the database to include e-journal content as well as full text in other databases. A library can offer any EBSCOhost database as 100% full text simply by creating a local collection (a list of ISSNs) of all journal content they have available in full text. Even databases that traditionally contain only indexing and abstracts (i.e. PsycINFO®) can become full text-only databases. In other words, a library subscribing to PsycINFO could enable the full text limiter so that EBSCO SmartLinksTM and EBSCO CustomLinksTM would display only results where full text is readily available elsewhere in the library. These results may be from another EBSCOhost database, e-journals, local print collections, etc. Along with many other customization options, libraries may also decide if they wish to make ILL and document delivery services available from within EBSCOhost.

All customization of EBSCOhost is made available using the renowned administrative module, EBSCOadminTM. To learn more about these and the many other options available to uniquely craft EBSCOhost in your library, including on-screen preferences, branding capabilities, and much more, visit EBSCO's customer community page at www.ebscoweb.com, and click on the Training & Documentation tab.
