First published in 1944 as the Institute of Textile Technology's Textile Technology Digest, the collection covers the body of knowledge amassed through textile science and technology from as far back as the turn of the century. Currently the Textile Technology Index contains indexing and abstracting for more than 400 periodical titles and for thousands of titles drawn from sources such as books, conferences, theses, technical reports, and trade literature. Extensive and thorough coverage is given to subjects such as manufacturing techniques, textile end products, chemicals and dyes, the properties of natural and synthetic fibers and yarns, environmental issues, and the related areas of chemistry, biology, and physics. Also, due to the changing needs of the textile industry, EBSCO will focus on the applications and development of high-performance and technical textiles.

Recognizing the importance of a global perspective on the industry, care has been taken to cover the best of both domestic and international journals. These publications cover the major resources from the scientific community as well as the apparel, home furnishings, flooring, and polymer industries. EBSCO plans to increase the coverage of relevant, well-respected periodical literature and other hard-to-find sources and non-traditional content.

When used in conjunction with EBSCOhost full text databases or e-journals through EBSCOhost Electronic Journals Service or CrossRef, researchers can link from citations in the Textile Technology Index to any available, corresponding full text. The database also allows for index browsing by author, document type, geographic term, ISBN, ISSN, keyword, publication name, subjects (all), and year of publication.
