France Moves across the Mediterranean:
EIS-France opens office in Algeria

You may not notice it on a map, but France is now in Algeria … at least EIS-France, that is. The French EBSCO Information Services (EIS) office is currently overseeing the new Algerian office. Algeria, which lies just across the Mediterranean from France, was a French colony until 1962 and still has many ties with France. Older and middle age Algerians maintain a particularly strong connection because they remember being a part of France, said Alain Pita, international sales manager for EIS-France.

The French office has been working with customers in Algeria for some time, and understands the culture. With the growing university population, EIS felt it advantageous to open a locally-staffed office in Algeria.

“The Algerian market is fresh,” said Pita. “People want and need information, but they don’t know where to get it. We have a major role to play in this country.” Businesses similar to EIS do operate in Algeria, but the financial stability and service reliability is not always there. With the backing of EBSCO Industries, EIS can guarantee Algerian clients will receive the print and electronic resources for which they pay.

The EIS office in Algeria is gaining footing quickly. “It is good to work with people who want to work with you. Some French customers think they know everything, and they don’t want advice. Algerians are very appreciative of the time experts spend explaining the offerings to them,” Pita said.
