Latin Love Affair:
The new attraction between EIS–Mexico and Latin American libraries

The Latin culture is known world-wide as one full of allure and attraction. Movies, music and the people keep that cultural perception alive … but libraries? EBSCO Information Services (EIS)–Mexico has recently been caught courting some pretty attractive library contracts.

Vying competitors for years, EIS–Mexico recently won the affection of several large library consortia. The first is the CARI (Consejo Asesor de Recursos de Información) Consortium, with a contract worth U.S. $1.4 million. This makes EIS the sole provider of subscription services to an additional 17 institutions across Mexico.

To complement this success, EIS-Mexico, along with EBSCO Publishing, sister company of EIS, secured another contract that was four years in the making. EIS will provide EBSCOhost® database access to a consortium of nearly 200 academic institutions backed by the Mexican government.

These institutions “are very pleased with EIS, our customer service and the support of the JETS (Journal Expediting and Technical Services) team,” said Oscar Saavedra, general manager of EIS–Mexico. “We are proving we have a better product and are more qualified to meet all of their needs.”

EIS–Mexico is representing EIS as quite an attractive subscription service company and has become the frontrunner of Latin American subscription services. Since its founding in 1994, the Mexico regional office has grown from one to 37 employees, increased its market penetration and created a lucrative library love affair.
