Open Day On Tour
EBSCO and EMpact Sales™ team up to create a 30-event series across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Following the successful first wave of EBSCO Information Services (EIS)-Europe (EU) Open Days organized in 2008, the European marketing team partnered with EMpact Sales™ to stage a 30-event series across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. This international tour, sponsored by publishers such as Cambridge University Press, Sage, Wiley, Springer, Elsevier, Taylor & Francis and others, began in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on March 13 and will end in Lisbon, Portugal Oct. 1, attracting more than 1,700 attendees.

"The EBSCO-sponsored Open Days offer a convenient and beneficial communications exchange platform for all involved in the information supply chain and to allow them to make many valuable contacts within a single day. During the Open Days, which are held in popular venues and feature complimentary cuisine and beverages, members of the library community have a great opportunity to learn more about what is happening in their markets and to have face-to-face meetings in an enjoyable atmosphere," said Delphine Dufour, European marketing manager of EIS-EU.

With numerous meeting, seminar and workshop options, attendees have access to a multitude of topics related to the information services industry, such as industry trends, experiences and best practices, as well as EIS and EBSCO Publishing products and services. EBSCO and partner publishers also offer information and on-site demonstrations on their range of solutions and content products.

According to surveys conducted at the close of each Open Day, the overall satisfaction rate was very high:

A librarian at the University of Free State in South Africa said, “Presentations were informative, elaborate and meticulous. The presenters were very knowledgeable. It was good to have the background information on EBSCO. I left with a good understanding of the products and services.”

Another librarian from Fontys Hogeschool in The Netherlands declared, “Both during and in between the sessions we gathered the desired information and inspiration. Additionally, the day was very well managed, so our compliments are also for the organization.”

Lastly, an information specialist from the French in-house training center C.I.F.O.D said, “There was some very good information on EBSCO. It also was a good idea to organize free publisher workshops. We really appreciated the opportunity that was given to us to visit the glass pyramid of the CAP 15 Congress Center.”
