For bird lovers everywhere, February is a month unlike any other. It’s National Bird Feeding month, and Wingscapes celebrated in the most unforgettable way — by making its first national appearance on Friday, Feb. 6., on the syndicated television program “The Martha Stewart Show” that airs five days a week on NBC.

Celebrity spotlight

After discussing the basics of attracting birds to the back yard with Dr. Stephen Kress of the National Audubon Society, Host Martha Stewart explained how she likes to capture birds on camera, but not just any camera. Stewart said, “Here’s a great thing that I’ve been using…the Wingscapes BirdCam.”

Stewart then showed a series of photographs taken in her yard with the BirdCam and offered tips on placement to get the best shots. She discussed how to safely attract birds to back yards with feeders and then capture digital images and video of them with the motion-activated BirdCam.

Critically acclaimed

Kress appeared on the show as a spokesperson from the National Audubon Society, an organization that aims at conserving and restoring natural habitats. Kress, author of The Audubon Society Guide to Attracting Birds: Creating Natural Habitats for Properties Large and Small, initially became aware of the Wingscapes BirdCam when it was being considered as an Audubon-licensed product, where a percentage of profits are donated to the society for preservation efforts.

After testing the BirdCam in his own back yard, Kress enthusiastically recommended Audubon commit to a licensing agreement and included information about the BirdCam in his book. “This is a remarkable camera for backyard bird enthusiasts, as it permits people to capture excellent photos while they are away,” said Kress. “It is simple to operate and will help people better appreciate the variety of birds that frequent back yards. As such, it is an excellent tool for educating people of all ages about birds and the need for conserving their populations.”

The sky’s the limit

Wingscapes has benefited from the licensing agreement with the National Audubon Society and the coverage on the “Martha Stewart Show.” The day the segment aired on the show, visits to the Wingscapes Web site, www.wingscapes.com, were nearly 20 times greater than visits the same day of the previous month, and traffic for the month was more than double that of the previous month.

Wingscapes has launched a new, impressive line of products for 2009 that include the AUDUBON BirdCam, packaged for family and backyard use, Wingscapes BirdCam 2.0 with Flash and the Wingscapes GardenCam (Timelapse) for watching gardens grow. As the BirdCam continues to attract attention, the popularity and reputation of the Wingscapes brand name will continue to soar to new levels of success.
