MetaPress Forum fosters understanding between MetaPress and its clients

In November, MetaPress held its first-ever client forum at EBSCO International Headquarters. The event focused on the services MetaPress provides to publishers and allowed MetaPress to gain a better understanding of its customers’ needs. As Faculty Information Consultant of Learning and Information Services, Lesley Crawshaw, a librarian from the University of Hertfordshire in England, was invited to the forum to share her personal experiences as a librarian working with online access, maintaining accounts and finding information.

By providing clients the opportunity to speak face-to-face with representatives from the institutions that use their resources daily, MetaPress hopes to better serve the interests of both parties. “To do our jobs more effectively, we want to find ways publishers can improve communication with institutions that have their resources,” Crawshaw said. “It’s also interesting to see the other side of the publisher-institution equation, the other perspective.”

Opening Communications

MetaPress acts as an intermediary between its publisher clients and the consumers who use their clients’ resources. “Each of our publisher clients has different needs, delivery requirements and financial goals,” said Michael Margotta, director of sales and marketing for MetaPress. “We have to adapt to meet the needs of each, from our biggest clients to the clients with only one publication. Despite the different needs of each client, all are dealing with content management, hosting and other similar issues. We also hope to bring together our clients with their commonalities.”

The forum is part of ongoing efforts to enhance communications between MetaPress and its clients. “We want to hear what our clients have to say, show them what we can do, and be proactive in meeting their needs,” Margotta said. “We have clients from all over the world, and this is the only opportunity specifically for MetaPress clients. The forum is an opportunity to discuss key issues and help our clients recognize what we’re doing.”
