Flipster®, EBSCO’s digital magazine solution, received the Platinum award in the 2018 Modern Library Awards (MLAs) program, an advancement from receiving the Gold Award in 2017.

How the Modern Library Award Winners are Selected (MLAs):

The Modern Library Awards (MLAs), is a product-review program designed to recognize elite products in the market which can help library management personnel enhance the quality-of-experience for the library user and increase the performance of their library systems. Products and services were submitted in the fall and sent to the 80,000 librarians at public, school, academic, and special libraries in the LibraryWorks network. Only customers with experience with these products/services in their facilities were permitted to judge the products/services, resulting in a truly unbiased score. Why Flipster Won Platinum

The Flipster team has been hard at work over the past year to make the digital magazine platform the easiest and most stable way for libraries to offer digital magazines. Some of the developments over the past year include:

  • The Flipster mobile app, available on iTunes and Google Play, has been enhanced to allow users to find their library and download magazines on the go. See it in action by viewing our video.

Deliver a Platinum Digital Magazine User Experience

Digital resources are not going away and users of all ages expect a seamless login with quick and easy access to their favorite magazines. With Flipster, libraries get a platform that is designed specifically for their needs and delivers an easy-to-use interface with on-demand access to the bestselling magazines such as TIME, Scientific American, Consumer Reports, National Geographic and many more.

What’s more, according to ALA, libraries that offer electronic resources as part of a library’s collection are related to higher rates of both visitation and circulation. And, the MLA judging panel agreed.

One panelist commented, “EBSCO is super to work with and helped develop a Flipster carousel which appears on the library homepage. The carousel draws attention to the homepage and we've experience an up-tick in both hits and usage since the carousel was introduced.”
