Platform Architecture

Our platform architecture helps users quickly and easily surface relevant search results.

Consistency Across Platforms

EBSCO’s platform architecture provides users with a consistent search experience across all products and interfaces. Our architecture consists of the following layers:

  1. Content: Content comes in a variety of formats and from a multitude of sources including full-text databases, subject indexes, e-books or an institution’s catalogs and institutional repositories.
  2. Search and link processing: This layer includes logic applied to metadata normalization, indexing and linking, relevance, value ranking algorithm and query parsing technology.
  3. Customization: This is where we apply extensive customization options for libraries to specify searching methods, linking, profile configurations, branding and more. The platform is highly extensible through APIs and web services.
  4. User interface (UI): Through the UI, end users access the most relevant content. The UI can be readily customized to support the research needs of users at different levels.
