Abstract

The article focuses on the publication of two separate antimicrobial resistance (AMR) research agendas in Summer 2023: one by the World Health Organization (WHO) on human health, and another by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)-United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)-WHO-World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) Quadripartite on One Health. It highlights concerns that having separate agendas risks deprioritizing the One Health approach and notes the omission of climate change as a factor influencing AMR in both agendas. The article also critiques the limited guidance on optimizing antibiotic treatment regimens and calls for a unified, transparent, and independent international research agenda, potentially overseen by a proposed Independent Panel on Evidence for Action against AMR, to better coordinate global efforts against AMR.
