Abstract

The Organic Agriculture Research and Extension Initiative (OREI) is a funding opportunity offered by the Agriculture Department's National Institute of Food and Agriculture. The initiative aims to address critical issues in organic agriculture through research, education, and extension programs. The deadline for applications is February 15, 2024, for FY 24, and February 13, 2025, for FY 25. Approximately $44 million is available each year for funding. Eligible applicants include state colleges and universities, for-profit organizations, and state agricultural experiment stations, among others. The focus of the initiative is to support producers and processors who have already adopted organic standards in growing and marketing high-quality organic agricultural products. Starting in FY 24, applications must address the relevance to organic agriculture stakeholder needs and the USDA organic certification status of the research field or facilities.
