Abstract

The article focuses on the transformative impact of Industry 5.0 and Society 5.0 technologies—particularly Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and digital twin technology—on smart farming and precision agriculture. It details how these technologies enable real-time data collection, virtual replication of agricultural systems, and advanced analytics to optimize crop management, resource use, and sustainability while addressing challenges such as population growth, climate change, and labor shortages. The paper also presents a Society 5.0-inspired digital twin framework that integrates multi-layered IoT architectures for enhanced decision-making and farm management, supported by case studies demonstrating practical applications in disease forecasting and automated irrigation. Challenges related to data security, scalability, infrastructure, and adoption barriers in developing regions are discussed alongside future prospects involving machine learning, 5G connectivity, and robotics to further advance sustainable agricultural practices.
