Abstract
The University of North Florida (UNF) conducted a four-year investigation of the Armellino Site (8DU631) on Big Talbot Island, near Jacksonville, Florida, starting in 2020. The site is believed to be the location of the 16th and early 17th century Timucua-speaking Mocama town of Sarabay. Excavations in 2023 focused on Block C, where a large circular structure, possibly the town's council house, was discovered. Artifacts found at the site include Indigenous pottery, Spanish Olive Jar, majolica, and modified shell, bone, and stone. The project was a collaborative effort involving UNF students, volunteers, and local organizations. [Extracted from the article]
