Abstract

The article discusses the role of the Virgin Mary statue in introducing the Catholic beliefs to the Potawatomi women in Kansas. Topics mentioned include the effort of the Society of the Sacred Heart to extend an intimate colonialism into Indigenous people, the initiative of the Society of the Sacred Heart to establish schools in Sugar Creek and St. Mary's to involve Potawatomi women into Euro-American culture and the decline of the Society of the Sacred Heart in the state.
