Abstract
Farmers have been compared to athletes in terms of their ability to break records, with farm yields setting records during the Green Revolution in the 1960s. The primary reason for these increases in yield was the development of re-engineered and highly improved plants. Scientists, such as Norman Borlaug, played a key role in redesigning plants to produce more food on less land. Crossbreeding is a specialized and demanding process that is used to produce plants with desired traits, and it continues to be used today to create plants with attributes such as higher yield potential, better taste, and resistance to disease and drought. The technological revolution has also led to the development of genetically modified plants. While patent law has historically protected inventions in other fields, it has only recently been applied to plants, encouraging individuals to develop new crop varieties.
