Abstract
The main focus of the article is the investigation of histological and morphometric changes in the brain and related tissues induced by various conditions and substances. One study examined the effects of anabolic androgenic steroids (AASs), synthetic derivatives of testosterone used to treat male hypogonadism, on the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and hippocampus of adult male albino rats, finding neuronal damage and astrocyte activation that partially reversed after AAS withdrawal. Another study explored structural changes in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus in a rat model of fibromyalgia induced by repeated acidic saline injections, revealing progressive neurodegeneration and gliosis over three weeks. Additional research discussed includes the protective effects of kefir against nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) in rats via modulation of specific molecular pathways, and the association of elevated serum levels of the proinflammatory cytokine follistatin-like 1 (FSTL1) with inflammation and insulin resistance in overweight and obese children.
