Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease in women with polycystic ovary syndrome and its relation with other concomitant factors.

Abstract
This article focuses on the prevalence and associated metabolic risk factors of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) in women diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). In a cross-sectional study of 68 women with PCOS, 48.5% were diagnosed with MASLD via abdominal ultrasonography, with those affected showing significantly higher body mass index, body fat percentage, insulin resistance (measured by HOMA-IR), triglycerides, and altered liver enzymes compared to those without MASLD. The study identifies obesity, insulin resistance, increased adiposity, menstrual irregularities, dyslipidemia (high triglycerides and low high-density lipoprotein), and smoking as significant factors associated with MASLD risk in this population. These findings suggest the importance of routine MASLD screening and metabolic management in women with PCOS, particularly those with obesity or insulin resistance, to improve clinical outcomes.
