Abstract

The article focuses on a study conducted in Kunming, People's Republic of China, examining the relationship between neurotransmitter and cytokine levels and protracted withdrawal symptoms (PWS) in people with heroin addiction undergoing detoxification. The research involved 136 participants and assessed various factors, including sociodemographic data, drug usage characteristics, and psychological evaluations over a period from March 2018 to October 2021. Findings indicated significant fluctuations in neurotransmitter and cytokine levels, which correlated with the severity of PWS and psychological symptoms such as anxiety and depression. The study emphasizes the importance of long-term rehabilitation strategies that address physiological, psychological, and social aspects of recovery to effectively manage heroin addiction.
