Abstract

The newly released Atlas of Ungulate Migration is a first-of-its-kind effort to visualize tracking data for large mammals. The atlas aims to encourage conservation by highlighting the prevalence and importance of large-scale movements for 20 different species, including the Mongolian gazelle, red deer, saiga antelope, and takin. The interactive website allows users to explore migration routes and includes color-coded maps of individual animal movements. The creators hope that the atlas will provide valuable information to governments, companies, and wildlife managers as they make decisions about infrastructure development. However, the atlas currently has limited data for certain regions and plans to add more species in the future. [Extracted from the article]
