Abstract
Researchers have developed a device called e-Taste that can deliver virtual tastes by squirting chemicals onto the tongue, mimicking flavors like cake and coffee. The system uses edible chemicals like glucose for sweet and citric acid for sour, infused into gels and delivered via a flexible conduit inserted into the mouth. While the device can replicate tastes with nearly 87 percent accuracy, researchers acknowledge that taste is not the only factor in experiencing food, with plans to incorporate smell and other sensations in the future. The technology could have applications in immersive gaming and sensory rehabilitation, potentially allowing virtual reality devices to recreate the tastes, smells, and sensations of various foods.
