Abstract
The article recalls the health impact of a smog from U.S. Steel factories that killed residents in the company town of Donora in Pennsylvania in October 1948. Topics discussed include the rise of wire rod mill, fence-bending mills, zinc works and other factories in the town, the release of toxic particulates from zinc works including zinc, sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide, and U.S. Steel's settlement of lawsuits related to the air pollution/smog incident.
