Abstract

This article focuses on the development and implementation of the Good Practices in Animal Research (BPEA, "Boas Práticas em Experimentação Animal" in Portuguese) platform, a video-based educational tool designed to train veterinary medicine students and professionals in laboratory rodent experimental procedures. BPEA provides scientifically accurate videos demonstrating techniques such as substance administration and blood collection, supplemented by detailed protocols, images, and diagrams to enhance learning while promoting ethical standards and reducing animal stress. Integrated into the Laboratory Animal Science course at the University of São Paulo, the platform received positive feedback for improving student confidence and academic performance, though it is recognized as a complementary resource that cannot fully replace hands-on training with live animals. The platform’s accessibility, especially among Portuguese-speaking users, and its dynamic, interdisciplinary development highlight its potential as a valuable resource for laboratory animal science education and ethical refinement of experimental practices.
