Abstract

The article focuses on the use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in detecting colon cancer, illustrated by a case of a 72-year-old man with advanced sigmoid colon cancer. It highlights characteristic ultrasound features known as the "pseudokidney" and "donut" signs, which indicate circumferential bowel wall thickening and suggest advanced disease. POCUS offers a portable, immediate diagnostic tool that can aid clinicians in settings with limited access to timely investigations, showing sensitivity and specificity comparable to CT scans for colon cancer detection. However, its effectiveness in identifying early-stage or pre-malignant lesions remains limited.
