Researchers have discovered that cicada wings possess microscopic pillars that can kill bacteria by bending and rupturing the pathogen's membrane. This finding could lead to the development of new methods to combat contamination and infection spread, particularly in hospital settings. The nanopillars on cicada wings have shown promise in killing bacteria and preventing harmful film buildup, offering potential applications in medical implants, filters, and food packaging.
