OsMFT1 Inhibits Seed Germination by Modulating Abscisic Acid Signaling and Gibberellin Biosynthesis under Salt Stress in Rice.

Abstract
This article focuses on the role of OsMFT1, a MOTHER OF FT AND TFL1 (MFT) homolog in rice (Oryza sativa), in regulating seed germination under salt stress. The study demonstrates that loss-of-function osmft1 mutants exhibit faster germination and reduced sensitivity to salt stress compared to wild-type seeds, whereas overexpression of OsMFT1 or its paralog OsMFT2 increases salt sensitivity and inhibits germination. Transcriptomic analyses reveal that OsMFT1 modulates the expression of genes involved in abscisic acid (ABA) signaling and gibberellin (GA) biosynthesis pathways, with OsMFT1 promoting ABA signaling and inhibiting GA biosynthesis under salt stress. These findings suggest that OsMFT1 acts as a negative regulator of rice seed germination in saline conditions by affecting hormonal homeostasis and related signaling pathways.
