Abstract

Domuzburnu Cave, Antalya, which was first excavated in the 1920s, risked being destroyed as a result of the rapid expansion of the city in recent years, and a rescue excavation was carried out in September 2022. For the first time, an extended series of radiocarbon dates has been obtained. Stratigraphic excavations have clarified the spatial extent of the settlement from the earliest Neolithic occupation onwards (6400-6200 cal. bc), and brought to light evidence of the Late Neolithic (6000-5900 cal. bc) as well as the Middle Chalcolithic (4800-4600 cal. bc). On the other hand, data from the upper layers indicate that the cave was intensively used from the Late Hellenistic to the Roman periods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
