Abstract

The article focuses on Venezuelan artist and critic Alfredo Boulton (1908–1995), highlighting his role in shaping Venezuela's national art canon and his contributions as a photographer. Born into a wealthy family in Caracas, Boulton studied in Europe before returning to Venezuela in 1928, where he sought to develop a Latin American form of modernism influenced by European styles. Although he published over 60 books, including a comprehensive History of Painting in Venezuela, the article emphasizes his photographic work, exemplified by a 1941 image of his wife at the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan, Mexico.
