Abstract

The article explores how the recovery of colour antiquity and information from Graeco-Roman statues led to revised perceptions in how historians think about the ancient world. Topics discussed include polychromatic works, marble or stone sculptures, the disappearing pigmentation that contributed to the misrepresentation of ancient Graeco-Roman statues and sculpture, art and science of rediscovering colour, and recreation of ancient sculptures from monochrome to polychrome.
