Abstract

The article explains how a compact, modern solid-state amplifier and power supply can be built to boost low-level VFO signals so they can properly drive vintage tube transmitters that require high grid voltage. Topics include limitations of crystal-controlled and early VFO systems, the design of a cascode amplifier to generate over 50 Vp-p from a 3 Vp-p input, and integrating modern components to interface efficiently with classic Heathkit transmitters.
