Abstract
This systematic review focuses on oral prosthetic rehabilitation in patients with epidermolysis bullosa hereditaria (EBH), a rare genetic disorder characterized by fragile skin and mucosa leading to painful bullae and scarring. Analyzing 23 articles—including 19 case reports/series covering 64 patients and 80 prostheses—the review found that 85% of rehabilitations were implant-supported prostheses, predominantly fixed full-arch designs, which showed the highest scientific quality and patient satisfaction. Despite challenges such as microstomia and mucosal fragility, implant-supported fixed prostheses placed in anterior regions are recommended to minimize trauma and optimize function and esthetics, with computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) techniques offering promising advances. The evidence base is limited to retrospective case reports with low overall quality, underscoring the need for individualized, multidisciplinary care and further research to establish standardized clinical guidelines for this complex patient population.
