Axillary Lymph Node With High Density and Echogenic Foci due to Tattoo Pigment Deposition.

Abstract

This article focuses on the identification of tattoo pigment deposition as a cause of echogenic foci within axillary lymph nodes observed on breast imaging. A 37-year-old woman undergoing screening mammography showed high-density foci in a morphologically normal left axillary lymph node, which corresponded to echogenic foci on ultrasound. The presence of a tattoo on the patient’s left shoulder led to the assessment that these foci were due to tattoo pigment rather than pathology. The article emphasizes the importance of considering tattoo history when evaluating axillary lymph node findings, as such foci can also be caused by calcifications from granulomatous diseases, metastatic disease, fat necrosis, or gold deposition after chrysotherapy.
