Abstract
This article focuses on the development and validation of a safe, indirect spectrophotometric method using N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) and P-aminophenol (PAP) for the micro-determination of nifedipine (NIF) and amlodipine (AML), which are dihydropyridine-based calcium antagonists with therapeutic significance. The method quantifies these drugs by measuring the violet-colored product formed from the reaction of excess NBS with PAP at 556 nm, following the initial reaction of NBS with the drugs in acidic media. Validation showed good linearity, precision, and accuracy within specified concentration ranges, with results comparable to official methods, and the procedure demonstrated environmental friendliness assessed by the Green Analytical Procedure Index (GAPI) and Analytical Greenness Metric for Sample Preparation (AGREEprep). This approach offers a rapid, cost-effective, and eco-friendly alternative for quality control analysis of NIF and AML in pharmaceutical formulations.
