Abstract
World's Greatest PlacesParis Like A PhoenixWhen fire ravaged Notre Dame in 2019, proposals for rebuilding the 12th century cathedral included a rooftop pool and a glass spire. But when it reopened in December, it stood as a marvel of authenticity. The $737 million restoration made the French icon into a global one, as artisans worldwide contributed centuries-old techniques to the craftwork. Public display has resumed for the crown of thorns purportedly worn by Jesus at his crucifixion, and the reopening is expected to attract up to 15 million visitors through 2025.—Richard Morgan [Extracted from the article]
