Abstract

The article discusses various aspects of a hospital-mosque that operated in Cartagena, Spain during the eighteenth century, and it mentions the collective actions of slaves and Islamic legal forms that slaves reportedly imported from the North African region known as the Maghrib. The collective privileges of Royal Muslim slaves (galley slaves) are assessed, along with Islamic communal institutions and ethno-religious belonging and slave communities.
