Abstract
A recent report from the Pavlov Institute of Physiology of the Russian Academy of Sciences explores the perception mechanisms of images in ancient and classical architecture. The researchers conducted psychophysical experiments to study the perception of building projections and found that the curvature and orientation of lines in these images can create visual illusions. However, the analysis suggests that the distortions in perception may be compensated for by the corrections in the architecture itself. The study also suggests that the aesthetics of perception may play a role in the curvature of certain elements. [Extracted from the article]
