Abstract
The article focuses on the Abbey of Saint-Benoît-du-Lac in Quebec, a Benedictine monastery founded in 1912 by exiled monks from Normandy. Known for its distinctive architecture and serene lakeside setting, the abbey combines a centuries-old monastic tradition of prayer and work with a renowned cheese-making operation established in 1943, producing Quebec’s oldest running fromagerie. The community has evolved through historical challenges, including early tragedies and wartime isolation, and today supports itself through artisanal cheese production, apple-based products, and hospitality. Visitors can experience the abbey’s spiritual practices, architectural heritage, and artisanal goods within the broader cultural and natural landscape of Quebec’s Eastern Townships.
