Abstract

A recent study published in Antiquity has shed light on the mysterious rock engravings found along the Orinoco River in South America. The engravings, which depict snakes and other figures, were likely created by ancient Indigenous groups as border markers or milestones. The researchers used drones and consulted local guides to map 13 sites with pre-Hispanic artwork, confirming the existence of these engravings. The study also highlights the importance of involving local communities in the preservation and research of these ancient artifacts. [Extracted from the article]
