Abstract

This article focuses on the 60th anniversary of Cream, one of Britain’s most influential supergroups formed in the mid-1960s by Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker. It traces the band’s origins from the earlier Graham Bond Organisation, highlighting the interpersonal tensions and drug issues that led to Cream’s formation. The article details the trio’s early rehearsals, musical chemistry, and initial recordings, including their debut album *Fresh Cream*, as well as their rise through live performances and media appearances. It also discusses Eric Clapton’s iconic 1959 Gibson Les Paul guitar, which was stolen early in the band’s career, and the role of manager Robert Stigwood in shaping their image and success.
