Abstract

The article reviews *Feminist Subjectivities in Fiber Art and Craft: Shadows of Affect* (2021) by John Corso-Esquivel, which explores how contemporary fiber art and craft engage with feminist subjectivities through affect—defined as the movement and passage through emotional states. Drawing on philosophical frameworks from Deleuze, Guattari, and Bergson, Corso-Esquivel examines the materiality and intuitive processes of fiber art as sites for alternative experiences of identity, sensation, and community beyond traditional symbolic hierarchies. The book analyzes works by eight American women fiber artists who use shadow, repetition, and stratification to challenge boundaries of self and other, emphasizing fluidity, transformation, and collective connection. This study situates fiber art as a vital feminist practice that fosters embodied, affective encounters and expands discourses on materiality, emotion, and identity formation.
