Abstract

This review focuses on *Selfie Aesthetics: Seeing Trans Feminist Futures in Self-Representational Art* (2022) by Nicole Erin Morse, which examines selfies as aesthetic objects through a trans feminist lens. Morse employs queer theory, trans studies, and media studies to analyze formal strategies in selfies—such as doubling, improvisation, seriality, and non-linear temporality—arguing that selfies serve as sites of self-representation and political potential rather than mere narcissistic displays. The book explores how trans creators like YouTubers Zinnia Jones and ContraPoints use selfies and digital personae to challenge normative gender binaries and linear narratives of identity, envisioning trans feminist futures through collective and intersubjective self-fashioning.
