Abstract
The article explores the authorship of architectural contributions to the Gentleman's Magazine from Dublin between 1784 and 1800, focusing on the mysterious figure known as 'Our ingenious correspondent at Dublin'. The author posits that Andrew Caldwell, a retired barrister and connoisseur of architecture, was the likely supplier of these contributions under various pseudonyms. Caldwell's extensive knowledge of Neoclassical architecture, connection to the Dublin Society, and preservationist efforts are highlighted as key factors in attributing the contributions to him. The article meticulously examines the signatures, drawings, and content of the letters to make a compelling case for Caldwell's authorship. [Extracted from the article]
