Abstract

The article discusses a new exhibition at the British Museum called "Legion: Life in the Roman Army," which explores the everyday lives of Roman legionaries and their families. The exhibition features over 200 objects from the British Museum's collection and lenders around the world, including the remains of a Roman marine preserved at Herculaneum, a Roman shield from Syria, and a legionary helmet from England. The exhibition aims to tell the individual stories of these ordinary men and provide an alternative perspective on the Roman legion. The exhibition is open until June 23, 2024.
