Abstract

The article focuses on Violet Sage Walker, chairwoman of the Northern Chumash Tribal Council, and her efforts to protect the coastal waters of central California and reclaim sacred land for the Chumash people. After a decade of advocacy, Walker successfully contributed to the establishment of the Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary, which was designated by the Biden Administration to prevent oil exploration and seismic testing in the area. Currently, she is working to acquire the Dos Pueblos Ranch to honor the cultural heritage of the Chumash tribe and safeguard the ranch's biodiversity. [Extracted from the article]
