Abstract
The article focuses on the significant influence of Nicaraguan poet Rubén Darío on the reputation of Edgar Allan Poe in Spanish America, highlighting Darío's role as a key figure in the Spanish American modernismo movement. Darío's appreciation for Poe is evident in his 1896 work, *Los raros*, where he portrays Poe as a tragic artist and critiques the treatment he received in the United States. The translations provided by Irina Arévalo Valverde and W. F. Carr include an analysis of Poe's life and works, emphasizing his "physical beauty" and "genius," while also addressing his perceived lack of Christian faith. The article suggests that Darío's portrayal of Poe has helped to solidify his legacy among modernista writers, who have further disseminated his influence throughout the region.
